Some 312 kg of plastic were accumulated by workers of the Recyclable Materials Company in a day dedicated to collecting this material, held in the districts José Martí (Patria) and Sierra Caballos, as part of the activities for the 51anniversary of the creation of the entity.

Although they collected pots called PET, it was demonstrated that there are still such wastes of this kind that are not recovered through traditional channels ready for activity such as Buying Houses of Raw Material, the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and pioneers through the movement “Recuperadores del Futuro”.

In this regard it is necessary the support of the Communal Services Enterprise in order to classify and throw the trash to the landfill, collect the plastic waste and subsequently delivered to the entity of recycling, as the Law 1288 establishes.

Today in the territory the generating sources of this resource is limited, neither the prices in Buying Houses are tentative, but the usefulness of this material in industrial production processes, import replacement and export is essential for the country, hence the need to return back the plastic to life cycle.

The Recyclable Materials Company of the Municipality exhibits a plan of 50 tons (t) this year and until September they had accumulated 37.5; they proposed collecting 4.2 t monthly, but as several members of this group expressed, people is the major generating source and the tourist pole Cayo Largo del Sur. That is why despite having complied with the provisions until now, it´s important an immediate response from people, agencies, organizations and institutions in order to recover plastic as much as possible once discarded.
