Rain didn’t impede the participation of the inhabitants in the practical activities at the National Civil Defense Drill Meteoro 2012, which finished on Sunday in the Isle of Youth and had the objective of preparing people for facing hurricanes and prolonged droughts, main metorological events that affect this part of the Cuban archipelago

The weekend gave the possibility of undertaking actions related with the hygienization of the city, the clearing of channels and ditches and the pruning of trees.

Members of the Municipal Civil Defense Council, headed by its president Ana Isa Delgado Jardines, could appreciated the high preparation of the Red Cross safety brigade in the attention to wounded people and persons in danger

The exercise contributed to eliminate vulnerabilities for reducing lives and material resources losts.

On Saturday the members of the different command bodies knew about the weather conditions and received an ample explanation on the characteristics of the hurricane season, which is qualified for above-normal by specialists. They also pointed out plans for facing extreme situation and adjusted expected tasks.

Hurricane season begins on June first and runs until November 30th. This year 10 hurricanes are predicted and 8 of them must be developed at the Atlantic Ocean.
