sandy_constructores_recuperacionGiven the extent of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy in the provinces of Holguin, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo and the losses suffered by the population, the Cuban government took the decision that the State Budget makes a 50% discount of current prices for building materials that will be sold to families with total or partial destruction of their homes. This means that hurricane victims will pay only half the price of these products.

The hurricane victims that already bought construction materials will also be entitled to this discount retroactively, by presenting the receipts of purchases.
Municipal government councils will determine the damage caused to each house and will define resources to be allocated, allowing the population to acquire the materials needed to carry out repairs.
In addition, in the case of persons whose incomes are not enough to cover the cost of building materials, they can request partial or totals subsidies from the Municipal Administration Council, to be charged to the State Budget.
Hurricane victims can also request bank loans, which are granted with lower interest rates and longer terms of payment. In cases of totally destroyed houses and roofs, the State Budget assumes the payment of bank interests to reduce household spending.
They can also opt for bank credits to replace essential properties lost that are available in shops of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and, if families don’t have enough money to pay for them, discounts will be applied in accordance with regulations established for losses in case of disasters.
